January 18th

Hi All,

What a flexible day we had today; well done to everyone for coping with the last minute changes.
We began our day with a round robin game of volleyball against Ms. Chin's class. Students applied their knowledge of volleyball in a competitive game to 10 against each other and the grade 5, 6s. The winning team faced Mr. Browning, Ms. Chin, Ms. Bannon and myself in a winner takes all finale.
After we changed from gym, we headed off to Ms. Chang's room for reading buddies. The SKs very much missed their buddies over the break and were happy to see the students come in.
After reading buddies, we headed over to Mrs. Haag's class to inquire about their medieval times unit of inquiry. Students enjoyed learning about the different traditions, wardrobe and lifestyle of peasants, knights and the wealthy in the medieval era.
Once we wrapped up with the grade 3s & 4s, we headed up to the portable for a group math word problem on volume. Students looked at the depth of water in a tank after 8 minutes. Well done to Azum, who earned a paper-clip for being the first student to correctly answer the problem, explain his thinking and submit his answer. :)

We had an outdoor first recess and students enjoyed being out on the playground after a week inside!

We came in from recess and loaded the vans for curling. We headed up to the Acton Curling Club, where we were met by our curling instructors. The instructors let the students use the in-club sliders instead of taping their shoes; the students were thrilled. After an hour and a half on the ice, we re-loaded the vans and headed back to the school. Wrapping up our day, we filled in our agendas, cleaned up the classroom and headed to the gym for after-school care.

Homework

See everyone on Monday!
