January 17th

Hi All,

What a cold start to our day; the temperature on car was reading -6 degrees!

Mr. Browning began our chilly morning with laps around the gym and some sprints. The students then divided into their teams for volleyball and played another round robin set of games.
Once the students were dismissed from gym, we headed up to the portable to start our day. Language was our first block and the students wrote a narrative paragraph. They learnt about transitional phrases and words, and wrapped up language with a paragraph on a fictional story.
After language, we moved into math. Students in grade 7 looked at multiplying fractions using base ten blocks as well as the rules of decimals. Grade 8 students worked on their unit review for geometry. The review went over sketching 3D objects, formulas for surface area, volume and perimeter, and net making.
With the ice still frozen over the playground, we had another indoor recess. Students played basketball and honed in on their volleyball skills by playing circle volleyball. We came up to the portable after recess and enjoyed hot dogs for hot lunches.
We transitioned into the afternoon and began our 4th block of study with spelling. Students had class time to complete their spelling unit #13 and to copy down the list words into their agendas. After spelling, we had history. In history we continued to focus on chapter 8, looking at the 10 take-overs in the middle east!
Ms. Henein had the students for period 6 and they worked on their Robin Hood scripts.
With another indoor recess, students stayed in the gym before heading up to the portable for lunch. Mme. Stella then joined us for 7th period and wrapped up the day working on F.S. = inf. +avoir

Miss Elliott
