Hi All,
Mr. Browning began our day with a volleyball round robin. Each student team won one game in the round robin, well done!
After gym, we headed up to the portable for the rest of our day. In our first period language block, students peer-edited their explanatory paragraphs and worked on their grammar and spelling. Good copies will be due tomorrow.
After language we moved into math. Grade 7s worked on a mid-unit review of fractions, while the grade 8s began looking at the volume of rectangular and triangular prisms.
We had indoor recess followed by pizza lunch.
After lunch, we took out our spelling books and worked on unit 13. Students also looked at the syllables of each of their words, highlighted the tricky ones and looked up each of the words synonyms. From spelling we moved into, language. We completed a reading response journal on 3 novel questions that we tied into our own lives. Our second novel task involved making a piece of advertisement for the ceremony of twelve. This ceremony is a pivotal moment for all members of the community in The Giver.
We wrapped up our literacy block and moved into our new science unit; we will be studying cells and cell systems over the next two months. We began our unit looking at the circulatory system, more specifically cholesterol, veins and arteries.
