January 14th

Hi All,

Today we started our day with a CrossFit work out in gym. Students worked on their endurance as well as muscular strength in a workout made for athletes.

After gym, we headed up to the portable and opened our Language C books. We are looking at explanatory paragraphs this week and will be learning about conjunctive adverbs, comparisons and explaining details.

After language, we moved into math. The grade 7s looked at subtracting fractions, while the grade 8s worked with the surface area of triangular prisms.

We had an indoor recess today, as the back playing field was quite mucky and wet. We enjoyed pasta lunches for hot lunches before beginning our afternoon. Students had a unit 12 spelling test right after lunch. After spelling we moved into our novel study. We looked at the biography of the book’s author, Lois Lowry. Students discussed their own writing styles and answered three questions on their writing preference. We wrapped up language and had a Unit of Inquiry block, where we examined the types of emotions specific colors bring to us. We all had various opinions but many remained along the same lines. This activity will be helpful when the students sit down to work on their projects.

After another indoor recess, Mme Stella ended the day with French and a grammar test.
